Former KwaZulu-Natal Judge President, Justice Vuka Tshabalala, witnessed his daughter, Dr Vuyo Lindelwe Mthethwa being conferred with a doctorate.

Mthethwa graduated with a PhD in Education at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Tshabalala said he was proud of his daughter. Mthethwa was also excited to receive her PhD, citing it as a milestone achievement.

For her thesis, she looked at students’ participation in university governance and their academic experiences in select South African universities. ‘After a protracted struggle against colonialism and apartheid, South Africa’s Higher Education has now achieved full student participation in university governance,’ said Mthethwa.

She found four critical issues compounding the intersection: political accountability, the nature of academic experiences, students’ expectations of lecturers and students economic circumstances.
