Purpose:
The purpose of this programme is to enhance pre-service teachers’ experiences (understanding and actions) with regard to Sustainable Living, Values-based and Social Entrepreneurship through creativity, reasoning, language usage and critically challenging and engaging sessions in Teacher Professional Learning. This is a non-degree and non-credit bearing programme that first year students may complete, to achieve a Community Engagement notch – CE Notch 1 and completion certificate.
An essential thread through this programme is teacher as leader and leadership development for the 21st Century, where the university has a “social responsibility to equip … [students] with necessary competencies, knowledge, understandings, and new skills so that they can constantly negotiate the changing nature of work, the labour force, information technologies and cultural identities of people” (Welikala, 2011, p. 4).
